Costume & Fashion Projects
Costume Design
McKinney Gough Design works diligently with artistic directors, technical directors, production designers, theatre companies and film producers to create unique and cohesive collections of costumes and set dressings based on the historic and situational details of scripts, castings and production notes.
Our company was honored to work as a scenic seamstress for the recent remake of the film, Dirty Dancing. Our work has appeared on the stages of Asheville Community Theatre, Diana Wortham Theatre, Magnetic Theatre, and the BeBe Theatre, here in Asheville, NC. We have proudly partnered with Attic Salt Theatre Company, Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective, Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance as well as local Western North Carolina high schools and dance schools to produce costume pieces for a variety stage and dance productions.
Historic Fashion &
Hat Making & Millinery
Our artists are tasked with the assignment to produce historically accurate costuming and fashion design. To do so, it is important to study the trends across socioeconomic groups and the realities of the lifestyle of the time period in question.
Hats and Headpieces are intrinsic in historical fashion as most eras have ubiquitous hat types. Our designers have produced custom top hats, fascinators and head pieces for performers, characters and musicians.
We are happy to discuss your millinery needs and have our designers produce mock ups of specific hat designs.
Conceptual Couture
Of course, the first question is, "What is Conceptual Couture?" This is where our team thrives and prides itself as a design house. The goal of conceptual couture is to produce costumes and fashions from unconventional materials to produce images or living art that can be used for marketing and promotion, advertising, set dressing, displays, art installations, messaging, branding and attention grabbing.
Utilizing a wide range of materials including paper, flowers, feathers, recycled linens, salvaged textiles, and upholstery to create fashion art pieces that are utilized by photographers, hair and makeup artists, artistic directors, advertisers, graphic design teams and fundraisers to create brand specific images for marketing purposes.
